how organized should one’s life be? or specifcally, my own?

how much do i value the “following my fancy” of it all. letting them whim take me where it may. this is something i value greatly though i know it is a cost for efficiency

i think habit research has shown that good habits are about lowering barrirers to entry or opportunity costs. having trouble exercising? find ways to make it easier and or more fun. put your running shoes by the front door as a reminder. buy some stylish exercise clothes if it helps you put them on.

it isn’t about sacrificing whim for efficiency, as much as it is about world building. curating the environment where one naturally moves from one satisfying realm to another.

for some, it can be hard to fill their lives with meaning, purpose, or valuable action. how those qualities manifest will look different for everyone. we shouldn’t envy someone else’s specific bliss, because it will always be unique to them. we should celebrate that they have found bliss to begin with. enjoy another’s joy so that when you find yours you will be equally as able to celebrate it.

it can be easy to compare our lives to others because we do not have good baselines for which to know how we are doing. we surround ourselves with friends so that we may feel a bit more sane in the world and we hope that these friends will be the kind that can offer honest reflection

as jim says: we all have blind spots, i just don’t see my mine.
